Trump Is Upset Over Amash’s Choice To Leave Republican Party
President Donald Trump has called a lot of people “losers.” In fact, everyone from Rosie O’Donnell to Sadiq Khan, the mayor of London, has been bestowed with Trump’s favorite insult. But this time, Trump is aiming his wrath at Michigan Congressman Justin Amash, who formally announced he was leaving the Republican Party in an open letter printed by the Washington Post. Amash said he was “declaring his independence” from the Republican Party on the Fourth of July, and said America’s culture of “hyperpartisan” politics was toxic.
“Great news for the Republican Party as one of the dumbest & most disloyal men in Congress is ‘quitting’ the Party,” Trump tweeted. “No Collusion, No Obstruction! Knew he couldn’t get the nomination to run again in the Great State of Michigan. Already being challenged for his seat. A total loser!”
Amash was the only Republican in the House of Representatives to openly call for impeachment proceedings against Trump. This angered many Trump supporters in Michigan, who vowed to vote Amash out of office in 2020 by voting for his primary challenger. Donald Trump Jr. hinted that he would campaign for Amash’s opponent in a tweet on June 13th.
“See you soon Justin… I hear Michigan is beautiful during primary season,” Trump Jr. tweeted.
Amash took the threat in stride, tweeting back, “I love it, especially later in the summer.”
