Trump Insults McCain During And After Funeral

During Trump’s visit to an Ohio tan factory, he bragged about assembling a state funeral for McCain and was upset that he “didn’t get a thank you.” All of this despite the long-standing political background of McCain starting with his service in Vietnam, was a prisoner of war, and ultimately serving as a Senator from Arizona.

Trump went continued, “We sent him on his way, but I wasn’t a fan of John McCain.” Trump takes all the credit for approving the military flight to transport McCain’s remains from Arizona to Washington, while Congress was the one to approve the honor of lying in state for McCain. McCain died at the age of 81 due to brain cancer last August.

Trump criticized McCain for his refusing to repeal Obamacare and said that he “didn’t get the job done for our great vets and VA [Veterans Affairs].” He continues, “Not my kind of guy. But some people like him and I think that’s great.”

Though the clash between the president and senator started during Trump’s election campaign in 2016, Trump continues to further bash the late senator. On Tuesday, a reporter asked Trump about his relationship with the late senator and he said, “I was never a fan of John McCain and I will never be.”
