Tom Brady wants the NFL to consider letting players use CBD oil
CBD oil, which is derived from the cannabis plant, is a banned substance within the NFL. But Patriots quarterback Tom Brady said he supports overturning the ban so players can use CBD oil for pain relief.
“I think they should explore it and do what is best for the players,” Brady said on The Greg Hill Show on Tuesday morning. “I kind of have thought that about a lot of different things. I think there’s a lot that goes into those types of decisions that are all collectively bargained. I know they are collectively bargaining a lot of those things. We’ll see how it shakes out.”
Brady made the comments after Rob Gronkowski held a press conference touting the benefits of CBD oil. Gronkowski said he had entered a partnership with CBDMedic, a company that produces cannabis-based pain medications.
Supporters of overturning the NFL’s ban argue that CBD oil is plant-derived and a safe, natural alternative to stronger, more addictive painkillers like oxycodone.
“I’m here today to appeal to the sports governing bodies of the world to update their position on CBD, whether that’s the NBA, MLB or NFL,” Gronkowski said at a press conference to announce the partnership. “It’s just time.”
Gronkowski said CBD oil helped him heal from sports injuries without the aid of more powerful drugs.
