Tobii Rex: World’s First Eye-Tracking Accessory

Eye tracking software has been something which has been around for a long time and one company which has never been too far out on the subject is Tobii. Yes folks, if you are aware of the current situations and happenings in the technological world, then you must also know that this is one of those companies which has always been on the top of its game. Just recently, the organization came up with the 3D version of the game EyeAstroids and to say that people love it would be an understatement, but more about that particular product a little later.

Today, the subject of our discussion isn’t Tobbi’s asteroid game but instead, the centre of our attention is the first of its kind, computer eye-tracking device that is compatible with all Windows 8 PCs and which is expected to arrive somewhere in 2013. This particular eye-tracking device, which is formally called ‘REX’, is soon to showcase at CES where developers will be first able to feast their eyes on the gadget/device. So, now you must be wondering, what exactly is REX and what kind of function do we expect from it? Well as mentioned, REX, and others of its kind work according to the user’s eye and this means that you won’t be required to use your keyboard or mouse (we hope so at least). Now REX, the development of Tobii is something like a strip which can be attached beneath your monitor or laptop, etc. Once the gadget has been attached, all you will be required to do will be to attach it to any of the USB ports after which the device will install a special software called Tobii Gaze which will help to track what you are looking at on a page and viola, you will be able to work with the tech almost immediately.

Now the kind of things that you use this device for entirely depends on you and your practice but the least that it can do for you is to make you able to scroll down or sideways while on a screen etc. As of right now, the exact price of Tobii Rex hasn’t been known but speculations say that it will be a little bit high as it is already available to developers for $995. The company says that it will be making only 5,000 of the REX accessory to check out the consumers react to the product. Although you cannot pre-order the REX peripheral yet, you must be glad to know that the product is expected to launch in late fall this year and so you don’t have a lot of waiting to do. Now before I wrap up this article, let me tell you a little bit about the very exciting game of EyeAstroids which is making people all around the world go crazy about it. On the outside, the game of EyeAsteroids from Tobii is simple and easy because all you need to do is to blow up and shoot asteroids with your eyes. However, if you have played the game yourself, you must know that it is highly addictive and that is mostly because it requires you to use nothing but your eyes to blow up the little asteroids that come in your way. Something which has gotten me overly excited is that EyeAsteroids is now available in 3D as well!
