The most valuable lesson: kindness
Have you ever had a stressful night’s sleep and a bad hair day, running late to work and pulled up to a drive-through window to find that the car in front of you already paid for your breakfast?
Suddenly, you are reminded that the sun brushes away the rain. You are reminded of love, gratitude, and simplicity. Small, quick, random acts of kindness can have a tremendous effect on someone.
The students of Key Club, a volunteer group, at Omro High School decided to commit as many acts of kindness as they could instead of going on their yearly trip to the movies. They put their ticket money toward tiaras and toys, gift cards, fresh flowers, and sweets – handing them out to members of their community.
The girls in Key Club handed out little surprises on the streets and in nursing homes and left them on peoples’ windshields. Local businesses learned of their motive and even donated to their cause.
They said people were surprised and even confused by these little gifts, but they found it so rewarding to see the way they could brighten someone’s day with a small moment. We should spread these girls’ message because it is a powerful one.
