Starbucks To Rid Of Straws By 2020
Starbucks announced that all plastic straws will be eliminated globally in the next two years. The coffee empire believes that they have a responsibility to protect the ocean and marine life from the one billion plastic straws that their customers alone use every year. Along with plastic straws, they are retiring the flat plastic lids.
Instead, the new cups will have a raised lip that you can drink from. The Frappuccino drinks will still be served with a dome lid but instead of a plastic straw, there is a paper straw.
While there are many cities putting the anti-plastic straw legislation in place, Starbucks is the largest food and beverage company to ban the plastic straw. The strawless lid will be featured at 8,000 different stores in the U.S. and Canada.
After prior “mistakes” that Starbucks has made, this a big step for them. It is both great for company’s image and for the environment. Win-win right?
