Williams planned on selling the stolen secrets to Russian intelligence
The aftermath of the Capitol Hill riot incited by exiting President Donald Trump continues with an FBI investigation of one woman from Pennsylvania, Riley J. Williams, who participated in the riot and stole a laptop containing confidential government documents. The investigation indicates Williams stole a laptop or hard drive from the office of the Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi with a tip that Williams intends on attempting to sell the laptop to Russian intelligence and appears to have “fled.”

She allegedly stole a computer from @SpeakerPelosi’s office, & now @FBI is investigating a tip that she intended to send the computer to a friend in Russia who’d sell it to Russian intelligence.

The FBI is investigating evidence that a female Trump supporter stole a laptop or hard drive during the Capitol Hill riot on January 6 from Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office with the intention of selling it to the Russians. The FBI maintains these claims are still under investigation with an affidavit detailing criminal charges against Williams stating a Pennsylvania woman was seen in footage from the insurrection area near Pelosi’s office during the riot.
The footage shows Williams exiting Pelosi’s office taking a laptop computer or hard drive and a witness mentioned in the affidavit that Williams intended to sell the computer device to a friend in Russia who would sell the device to Russia’s foreign intelligence service, SVR. The witness was identified as an ex-partner of Williams mentioned called the FBI tip line identifying Williams. The witness alleges the transfer of the computer device to Russia fell through maintaining Williams still has the device or has destroyed it.
It is still unclear whether the device stolen by Williams was a laptop computer or hard drive but the FBI is continuing the investigation and Williams has fled. According to local law enforcement, Williams’ mother claims her daughter packed her bags and left home claiming that she would be gone for a couple of weeks without providing any information of where she was going.

Williams’ mother also claimed that her daughter took a sudden interest in “far-right message boards” and Trump’s politics that could have influenced her decision. Williams has changed her phone number and deleted prior social media accounts in what seems to be an attempt to conceal her location.
Local law enforcement of William’s hometown of Harrisburg disclosed to the agent handling this case they had a recent interaction with Williams’ parents. On January 11, Williams’ mother filed suspicious persons report against the witness mentioned in the affidavit of the FBI case.

Williams’ mother called her via video chat with local officers present and the officers claim they saw Williams wearing a brown jacket that matched footage from the Capitol Hill riots on January 6. The Harrisburg officers also disclosed that Williams’ father drove with her to Washington for the protests but they split up after Williams met with her friends and drove home with her father after the riot was dispersed.
This crazy story is being compared to the 2008 film “Burn After Reading” in which two gym employees discover government secrets from a former CIA analyst who attempts to take advantage of this knowledge by selling the secrets. The FBI issued an arrest warrant for Wiliams on Sunday with charges for illegally entering the Capitol with disorderly conduct and no charges of theft filed.
