Shooting Leads To Lawsuit
On June 12, 2016, almost 2 years ago, Orlando nightclub “Pulse” was the victim of a mass shooting that took the lives of 49 people. Now, as the anniversary approaches, the Orlando police department and the city is being sued by the victim’s families.
According to spokespeople for the plaintiff(s), they claim that the Orlando police department, including those individuals who were deemed as heroes in the situation, “chose to allow the patrons of the club to be massacred while these defendants ensured only that they themselves were safe.”

This federal civil rights lawsuit has yet to receive comments from the city of Orlando, but it is raising controversy. Adam Gruler, security guard at Pulse that night, was one of the first to respond to the shooting and call for backup. Despite this, the rampage occurred for almost three hours before police entered the night club and neutralized the shooter.
The Orlando Pulse night club shooting was an all around tragedy that consumed the lives of many innocent victims. While justice for the victims should always be priority, trying to reprimand the officers that ended the senseless violence should not be overlooked. Let’s just hope that there is a peaceful resolution moving forward, as the focus should not be on “who to blame” but “how to fix the issue of gun violence in America.”
