Prince Harry Attends Coronation Solo: Royal Duty or Family Tension?
Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, is set to attend the coronation of King Charles III at Westminster Abbey on May 6th, but his wife Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, will not be joining him. Buckingham Palace announced that Prince Harry will attend the ceremony without Meghan, putting an end to months of speculation about the couple’s attendance.
More than 2,000 guests are expected to attend the coronation, and Prince Harry’s presence will mark his first public appearance with the Royal Family since the publication of his memoir, “Spare”. In the book, Prince Harry reveals his struggles with mental health and the negative media coverage surrounding Meghan. He also spoke about the lack of support he received from his family.
The decision for Meghan not to attend the coronation is said to be a result of the continuing family tensions that have been widely reported in the media. The couple’s statement mirrored that of Buckingham Palace, stating that “The Duke of Sussex will attend the Coronation service at Westminster Abbey on May 6th. The Duchess of Sussex will remain in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.”

The date of the coronation also coincides with Prince Archie’s fourth birthday, and he will remain in the US with his mother, Meghan. It had been unclear whether Prince Harry would attend the coronation, but his confirmation of attendance means that King Charles will have both his sons present for the ceremony.
Although the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have stepped back from their royal duties, they remain in the public eye. Prince Harry’s attendance at the coronation without Meghan is likely to spark further media speculation and scrutiny, particularly given the tensions that have surrounded the couple’s departure from the royal family. However, Prince Harry’s attendance shows his commitment to his family and his sense of duty to the monarchy, which will likely be seen as a positive move by royal supporters.
