President Trump wants to throw the opening game pitch for the Yankees
President Trump just pulled another media stunt involving the MLB opening seasons even though the MLB hasn’t planned for a major event featuring the POTUS. Just hours before Dr. Anthony Fauci threw the opening pitch to celebrate Major League Baseball’s pandemic season, President Trump announced during a press conference he will be having his own on-field ceremony next month.
During a press conference in the White House briefing room, Trump announced he’s spoken with Randy Levine of the Yankees and will throw the first pitch planned for next month in the Bronx home stadium of the Yankees. Reports indicate Trump wasn’t too happy with Dr. Fauci’s positive press and prompted him to make this decision.
Though this plan seems concrete, they have yet to set an actual date (some are guessing the opening date August 15) but White House officials have attempted to contact the Yankees. The New York MLB team has yet to get back to the White House officials and neither party has confirmed whether Trump will be throwing the opening pitch, so far.
Trump’s announcement was delivered on short notice for White House aides who are scrambling to inform POTUS he has other prior engagements planned for August 15 who were unable to confirm what Trump will actually do. After finalizing the planning of the event, Trump declined his self-imposed invitation stating he wants to have a “strong focus” for dealing with the pandemic.
Unfortunately, this isn’t the only issue the MLB is facing for the new COVID-19 pandemic season. On Monday, 14 players and coaches on the Miami Marlins team tested positive for COVID-19 and this is creating more doubt whether the MLB season can continue with these new conditions surrounding COVID-19.
This MLB season is planned to host 60 games with interstate travel among 30 teams for the pandemic season while working around possibilities of games being canceled or postponed. Everyone is looking forward to watching some baseball while maintaining safety standards surrounding COVID-19.
