More details revealed on Trump’s deal with Ukraine
President Donald Trump allegedly told his Chief of Staff, Mick Mulvaney, to withhold military aid to Ukraine, an embattled country in Eastern Europe, before Trump asked the Ukrainians for dirt on rival presidential candidate Joe Biden.
A whistleblower made a complaint about Trump’s phone call to the Ukrainians, in which Trump asked them for information detrimental to Biden’s campaign. The U.S. finally released funds for military aid to Ukraine on September 11, after a two-month delay.
Trump defended himself on Twitter, saying he was considering releasing transcripts of the “very nice” call, and saying the scandal was a fake issue whipped up by the “Fake News Media.”
“Now the Fake News Media says I ‘pressured the Ukrainian President at least 8 times during my telephone call with him.’ This supposedly comes from a so-called “whistleblower” who they say doesn’t even have a first-hand account of what was said. More Democrat/Crooked Media con,” Trump tweeted. “Breaking News: The Ukrainian Government just said they weren’t pressured at all during the ‘nice’ call.”
The whistleblower who made the report did not have firsthand knowledge of the call, as several news outlets reported this week.
During a press conference, Trump said, “There was no pressure put on them whatsoever. I put no pressure on them whatsoever. I could have. I think it might probably, possibly have been okay if I did, but I didn’t.”
