Ryan Murphy gives the villain her own origin story series
The villain nurse from the film “One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest” known as Nurse Ratched will be getting her own spinoff Netflix series with the help of Ryan Murphy and Sarah Paulson. Ryan Murphy is bringing some of his magic back to Netflix after his recent hit Netflix series “Hollywood” after discovering a spec script by Evan Romansky with an origin story of Nurse Ratched.
Murphy felt this iconic villain deserved a spotlight moment and got the perfect actress to play the leading role, Sarah Paulson. Murphy is known for featuring Paulson in a variety of roles for his hit TV shows with reoccurring roles on all nine seasons of “American Horror Story” making her no stranger to dramatic thriller roles.
Murphy really wants to show the audience the Ratched’s emotions in her personal life instead of the cold character portrayed in the original film. The series time-period will take place in the 1940s as Ratched is a nurse seeking employment at a psychiatric facility in Northern California.
Shortly after starting Ratched learns the psychiatric facility conducts disturbing experiments on the patients. Murphy identifies with the character of Ratched with her loneliness that he feels drives her to be the cold character we’ve come to know.
Paulson shares her personal connection to the character by trying to explore the reasons how Ratched became the cold character and better understanding this character. Paulson will also be joined by a star-studded cast including some of Murphy’s reoccurring cast members from his other projects.
Jon Jon Briones previously worked with Murphy for “American Crime Story: Versace” and is returning to play the controversial Dr. Hanover. Judy Davis worked with Murphy on the FX series “Feud: Bette and Joan” to play the no non-sense character Nurse Bucket.
Finn Wittrock from “American Horror Story” will be playing the role of psychiatric inmate Edmund Tolleson. “Ratched” features star cast members including Sharon Stone (as Lenore Osgood) and Cynthia Nixon (as Gwendolyn Briggs).
