After Involvement With College Admission Scandal, USC May Sue Loughlin
Former “Full House” star Lori Loughlin could be sued by the University of Southern California for her role in the college admissions cheating scandal. Loughlin and her husband, “Mossimo” designer J. Mossimo Giannulli, are facing felony charges in the scandal, and have pleaded not guilty.
Loughlin and Giannulli’s attorneys filed a letter from USC in federal court, in which the university said it expects ongoing legal battles with the couple. A USC spokesperson refused to elaborate on what exactly that meant, but many expect that the couple will be sued for defrauding USC. Federal prosecutors say Loughlin and her husband donated money to a fake charity, which in return doctored SAT scores and academic records to get Loughlin’s two daughters into USC.
The cheating scandal has spurred endless legal disputes. A student, Adam Semprevivo, whose parents paid off scammers is suing Georgetown University to prevent the school from nullifying his credits. Many of the children whose parents got involved in the cheating scandal were unaware of the scam, and believed they had been admitted to prestigious universities on their own merits.
Loughlin’s two daughters have not been expelled from USC, but are facing disciplinary action from the school. Both daughters have hired attorneys.
