Robert Morin gave 50 years of his life to the University of New Hampshire’s Library, and ended up giving them his money as well. Robert Morin attended the University of New Hampshire, then continued to work in the Diamond Library on campus in 1965. He retired in 2014, after working there for nearly 50 years. His job at the library was to catalog DVDs, CDs and sheet music. With no family of his own, he lived a simple life eating frozen dinners and preferring to stay home in the evenings watching movies.
He watched over 22,00 videos! Over the course of 50 years, he saved most of his money and invested it wisely. His retirement account had almost $1 million in it, but of course he wasn’t retired for very long. His generous $4 million dollars was money he made working at the University, then gave it all back! The University of New Hampshire plans on spending the money on scholarships, a new career center and a new video scoreboard at the football stadium. He also specifically set aside $100,000 for the library.
Before he died, Morin read every book published between 1930 and 1940. He did not include textbooks, books about technology, cooking, or children’s books. If everyone could believe in the mission of their company and love their job that much the world would be a better place.
