Spoiler Alert Warning
Fans of “Game of Thrones” seem equally divided on the show’s final episode, either loving or hating the hit series’ shocking ending. Kit Harington, who plays Jon Snow, says he expected the criticism but believes the show ended exactly the way it should. He even defended the shocking twist in which Snow kills his lover, Daenerys.
“This is the second woman he’s fallen in love with who dies in his arms and he cradles her in the same way,” Harington told Entertainment Weekly. “That’s an awful thing. In some ways, Jon did the same thing to Ygritte by training the boy who kills her. This destroys Jon to do this.”
Emilia Clarke, who plays Daenerys, says she freaked out when she read the script and realized how the show would end. She says she cried and made an emotional phone call to her mother to discuss the ending.
“I cried,” Clarke told Entertainment Weekly. “And I went for a walk. I walked out of the house and took my keys and phone and walked back with blisters on my feet. I didn’t come back for five hours. I’m like, ‘How am I going to do this?’… And then I asked my mom and brother really weird questions. They were like, ‘What are you asking us this for? What do you mean, do I think Daenerys is a good person? Why are you asking us that question? Why do you care what people think of Daenerys? Are you OK?’”
But in the end, both Clarke and Harington were satisfied with the finale, Entertainment Weekly reports. Clarke called it “a very beautiful and touching ending.”
