Conway Slams Pelosi After Failed Meeting With Trump
White House Counselor Kellyanne Conway sarcastically snarked that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was “really pro-woman” after Pelosi refused to address Conway directly, instead of saying she only answers to the President.
The tense exchange occurred after Trump met with Democratic leaders.
“President Trump abruptly blew up a meeting with Democratic congressional leaders on Wednesday, declaring that he could not work with them until they stopped investigating him and lashing out at Speaker Nancy Pelosi for accusing him of a cover-up,” The New York Times reported. “He then marched out into the Rose Garden, where reporters had been gathered, and delivered a statement bristling with anger as he demanded that Democrats ‘get these phony investigations over with.'”
As the meeting was called off, Conway asked Pelosi if she had a “direct response” to the President regarding his questions.
“I’m responding to the president, not staff,” Pelosi replied.
“Really great. That’s really pro-woman of you,” Conway reportedly snarked back.
Some observers lauded Conway’s clapback on Twitter, while others say Conway accuses opponents of “sexism” anytime she’s criticized.
“Good for Kellyanne!” Women For Trump’s official Twitter account wrote. “Too bad it wasn’t in public so we could all hear it…”
But Rachel Cohen, a staffer for Virginia Senator Mark Warner, saw it differently.
“It’s really tiresome to see Kellyanne Conway constantly invoking her gender to shield herself and her boss from criticism,” Cohen tweeted. “And it demeans the actual, real challenges women of both parties still face in professional politics.”
