Trump is open to foreign information
Former aide to President Trump Hope Hicks told the House Judiciary Committee that Trump is serious about accepting foreign help in elections. Two weeks ago, Trump made a highly controversial statement that he would accept information on an opponent provided by a foreign agent during an election, rather than handing it over to the FBI.
Panel Chairman Jerrold Nadler released a statement after Hicks’ testimony saying, “Ms. Hicks made clear that she understood the president to be serious when he said that he would accept foreign interference in our elections.”
Other Democrats had expressed frustration with Hicks’ testimony, calling it a “farce” and claiming Hicks was refusing to answer questions. Meanwhile, Trump took to Twitter to castigate the Democrats for pursuing a “witch hunt.”
“So sad that the Democrats are putting wonderful Hope Hicks through hell, for 3 years now, after total exoneration by Robert Mueller & the Mueller Report. They were unhappy with result so they want a Do Over. Very unfair & costly to her. Will it ever end? Why aren’t they asking Hillary Clinton why she deleted and acid washed her Emails AFTER getting a subpoena from Congress? Anybody else would be in jail for that, yet the Dems refuse to even bring it up,” Trump tweeted.
Nadler said a transcript of Hicks’ testimony will be released soon.
