Tech News With Google Plus
Over the next ten months Google will be shutting down Google Plus, according to a blog post by Google earlier this week. The reason being is due to a security flaw that exposed users’ profile. As of now, Google Plus has “low usage and engagement,” stated by Google.
Moreover, the 90 percent of Google Plus user sessions last less than five seconds. Google still wants to keep the service alive for employees, being that they need to communicate with other co-workers. Because of this, new features will be released for that reason.
Aside from Google Plus, new privacy adjustments were announced for other Google services. API changes will hinder developers from access to data on Android devices and Gmail. Developers will be unable to call log and SMS permissions on Android devices. In addition, contact interaction data won’t be accessible via the Android Contacts API. API provided basic interaction data is also being revoked.
Apps will be limited along with their access to user data, because of the Gmail changes Google is emitting. This is also the result of updating its User Data Policy for the consumer version of the email service.
These recent changes are being referred to as Project Strobe, that entails a review of goals and philosophies.
