Elon Musk Threatens Legal Action Against Microsoft Over Twitter Data Use
Tech mogul Elon Musk has taken to Twitter to threaten Microsoft with a lawsuit, accusing the tech giant of using Twitter data without permission. Musk’s comments were prompted by Microsoft’s announcement that it plans to remove Twitter from its corporate advertising platform, which will prevent ad buyers from accessing their Twitter accounts through Microsoft’s social management tool. Musk accused Microsoft of training illegally using Twitter data and warned, “Lawsuit time.”
The SpaceX and Tesla CEO did not offer further details or evidence to support his claims. However, Musk has previously expressed his dissatisfaction with companies using Twitter’s database and then selling the data to others. In another tweet, Musk said he was “open to ideas” about addressing the issue of companies using Twitter’s data. Still, he stressed that demonetizing the platform and then selling its data was not a viable solution.
The social media giant has faced increasing scrutiny from major companies like Apple, which have halted advertising on the platform over concerns about the moderation of content on the site. Musk’s criticism of Microsoft comes amid growing concerns about how tech companies collect and use data. While Twitter has not commented on Musk’s accusations, the company did respond to a query about Microsoft’s decision to remove the platform from its advertising platform with a poo emoji.

It remains to be seen if Musk will follow through on his threat of a lawsuit against Microsoft. However, his comments highlight the growing importance of data privacy and the need for companies to be transparent about collecting and using data. As tech companies continue to develop new ways to collect and analyze data, they must prioritize user privacy and security to maintain consumer trust.
