Crimea lawmakers adopted a ‘declaration of independence of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea’.
The purpose of which may be to legally aid in helping Crimea to join Russia, pending a vote in a coming referendum.
The local Pro-Russian parliament approved the declaration as a technical benchmark ahead of the March 16th vote that will ask Crimea’s population if they should join Russia. With over 50% of the population of Crimea pro-Russian the odds look to be that that vote will be a yes.
The legitimacy of the vote however, is up for debate in the eyes of other Western nations as well as the Kyiv government.
