This week, video game developer and publisher CD Projekt Red reached a settlement with a group of investors who sued the company over the 2020 release of the video game Cyberpunk 2077. The plaintiffs in the suit will receive $1.85 million as settlement. According to court documents, the money will be paid out to elligible class members, as well as used to cover “settlement administration costs, taxes, attorney’s fees and costs.”

Back when Cyberpunk 2077 first launched in December of 2020, the game was widely lambasted for its extremely buggy state, with many players requesting refunds for the game due to their dissatisfaction. The game was even delisted from the PlayStation Store for a lengthy period, as the PS4 version was even worse off than the other versions of the game. On the heels of this negative reception, individuals who invested in CD Projekt Red during the game’s development launched their lawsuit on the grounds that the company had deliberately withheld information about the game from them.

In the years since, CD Projekt Red has released multiple large-scale patches for the game, fixing many of its bugs and addressing player concerns. Thanks to this, as well as positive reception from the 2022 tie-in anime Cyberpunk Edgerunners, the game has managed to reinvent itself and build a healthy playerbase.
