Amazon Will Soon Be Hiring
Amazon announced on Thursday that it plans to create 100,000 new full-time, full – benefit jobs over the next 18 months. This addition will expand Amazon’s workforce to 280,000. That’s a 56% increase from 2016. Many of these new jobs were expected, since Amazon announced plans to create new warehouses in California, Texas, New Jersey, Florida and other cities.
Thousands of employees are needed to operate these facilities. This announcement comes in the wake of President – elect Donald Trump’s push to have companies employ more American workers. Trump had also been publicly critical of Jeff Bezos, the CEO of Amazon during the election. However, much of the credit probably goes to the fact that the company has been expanding so rapidly that it requires thousands of new employees to do all of the work that needs to be done.
Amazon is now branching into deliveries of groceries, video streaming, as well as fashion and cloud services. The new positions that Amazon will be hiring for “are for people all across the country and with all types of experience, education and skill levels – – from engineers and software developers to those seeking entry – level positions and on-the-job training”. Additionally, Amazon has been known as a “job killer” because it replaces “brick and mortar” businesses.
While Trump and Bezos are being more cordial now, we will continue to see how the feud pans out. Regardless of their feelings about each other, this hiring of more American workers makes Trump look good.
