Spacey Goes To Court For Sexual Assault Charges
Kevin Spacey is back in court to face charges that he groped a teenager at a Massachusetts bar in 2016. Spacey has pleaded not guilty to indecent assault and battery.
Spacey’s accuser, who was 18 at the time, remains anonymous due to legal protections for victims of sexual assault. However, former Boston TV personality Heather Unruh has outed herself as the victims’ mother, and says Spacey got her son drunk and then groped him at the Club Bar in Nantucket. Unruh’s son worked as a busboy at the Club Bar and asked to get a picture with Spacey. Spacey agreed, but assaulted the teen afterward, court documents say.
Spacey’s lawyers say the teen deleted text messages from his phone that support Spacey’s claims to innocence. They say the teen engaged in “consensual flirtation” with Spacey and is now hoping to pick the actor’s deep pockets by filing a civil lawsuit.
Spacey’s attorney says the alleged victim “deleted exculpatory text messages and provided falsified screenshots of his conversation from the night in question to law enforcement,” according to AP News. The attorney says “complete and unaltered” text messaging records from the victim’s phone must be turned over before Spacey can get a fair trial.
In the meantime, the judge presiding over the case, Thomas Barrett, has ordered the Club Bar to turn over all surveillance videos from the night in question before the case moves forward.
