These secrets about “Aladdin” will show you a whole new world of the Disney classic. Here are some fun facts about your favorite “Aladdin” character, The Genie.

Will Smith is honoring the role of The Genie in the new live-action version of “Aladdin” but the original inspiration for the Disney character comes from a famous jazz singer. African-American jazz singer, Cab Calloway, had an electric personality that he was known for and was the perfect inspiration for The Genie.

In the first scene of the original movie, The Genie was the peddler that speaks to the audience before the movie starts. The original iconic Genie character, played by late comedian Robin Williams, used a majority of improvised lines by Willams that were so clever they had to include them in the movie.

Will Smith wanted to honor the late comedian the best way possible for the new film to stay true to the original Genie character.
In the new movie, there was no makeup involved with Genie’s look and the blue skin color was achieved through CGI technology.
