Plus Golf, NBA Finals, And Baseball
Justify won the 150th Belmont Stakes on Saturday and won thoroughbred racing’s Triple Crown. He’s only the second undefeated horse to accomplish the feat.
Justify went wire to wire to win at Belmont Park and become the 13th Triple Crown winner and the first since American Pharoah in 2015. He is expected to take a few months off and then race again later this year.
TENNIS: Despite a finger injury, Rafael Nadal defeated Dominic Thiem in straight sets on Sunday to extend his record of victories in the French Open to 11. In Saturday’s women’s final, Simona Halep collected her first win in a major by defeating Sloane Stephens.
GOLF: Dustin Johnson reclaimed the world’s No. 1 ranking in golf with a six-stroke victory at the St. Jude Classic in Memphis. He’ll play later this week in the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills.
NASCAR: Clint Bowyer won the FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway on Sunday. It was his first win of the season. With Kevin Harvick finishing second and Kurt Busch third, Stewart-Haas Racing earned the first 1-2-3 sweep in its history.
ELSEWHERE: The Golden State Warriors won their third NBA title in four years by sweeping the Cleveland Cavaliers. They won Game 4 on Friday night 108-85. Kevin Durant was the MVP of the Finals for the second straight year.
In baseball, The New York Mets ended an eight-game losing streak on Sunday night, beating the New York Yankees 2-0 on Todd Frazier’s two-run homer in the fifth inning. The Yankees were the only team not to be shut out this season.
The Los Angeles Dodgers have 26 home runs already in June, adding three on Sunday to beat the Atlanta Braves 7-2.
