Which Books Would You Take?
Authors James Frey, Stephen Markley, and Doris Kearns Goodwin were all asked which books would they take to a desert island, and they each had some interesting answers. Frey, whose latest novel “Katerina” debuts next month, chose the Bible and the Tao Te Ching. His reasons were because it’s long, it would keep him occupied, and it would keep him sane while stranded on the island.
One of Markley’s choices was Stephen King’s “It,” a horror novel! I’m not sure if reading something scary while stranded on a desert island would make me feel much better, but that’s still an interesting choice. Markley’s newest novel “Ohio” was released this month.
Goodwin’s choice was a unique one. She chose “The Collective Works of Abraham Lincoln” and her explanation why was interesting. She claims that there’s so much wisdom on how to live a life and not be angry at people, and it would, in turn, make her into a better person. Goodwin has a new book called Leadership expected to drop next month.
If I ever had to choose a book to take to a desert island, it would probably be Sharon Draper’s Jericho trilogy (“The Battle of Jericho”, “November Blues”, and “Just Another Hero”). Those are my favorite set of books by her, the characters seem real, and it would keep me entertained.
