Good Looking Out Hori

Most Nintendo Switch owners have noticed the Joy-Cons lack traditional D-pads. Joy-Cons have instead four separate buttons. This may be an issue if you want to play a 2D platformer or a fighting game. Luckily, this video game accessory company, Hori, has come up with a solution.

On September 18, Hori will be releasing left Switch controllers that feature cross–shaped D-pads. Officially licensed Zelda and Mario themes are an option for pre-order. The Zelda themed controller encompasses a black with gold etchings style and the Mario one has a maroon with red etchings. They each cost $25.

Despite this exciting release for the Switch, there some unfortunate downsides to this. They will only be releasing left side controllers. So don’t get rid of the original right side Joy-Con. In addition, a lot of the internal hardware such as: bluetooth, HD rumble, a gyro-sensor, battery, and SL/SR buttons is missing. This means that the Switch can only be played in hand held mode. To be more specific, it cannot be played on the television. At least, we can play the Mega Man collection comfortably. So that’s a win.
