The U.S. Olympic Committee announced its largest-ever Winter Olympic team.
It’s made up of 230 talented and determined athletes who’ve worked and trained hard to bring home the gold for the U.S staring February 6th..
The reason for the huge number of athletes attending the games is because the 2014 Winter Olympic have expanded to include 12 new never before seen events like the much publicized women’s ski jump.
Big Names Competing in Sochi
Let’s run down some of the familiar fan favorites you’ll see competing in Sochi, Russia.
Two time Olympic gold medalist Shaun White is a favorite to win the men’s half-pipe this year.
In addition to Shaun, two stellar alpine skiers will be returning.
Meryl Davis and Charlie White are fresh off the heels of a fantastic showing at nationals and the winning pair plans to keep up their stellar momentum going into Sochi.
Bode Miller will be making his 6th Olympic, while Ted Ligety is favored to win three events.
Who’s Missing From The Games
Olympic veteran Seth Wescott will not be partaking in the Sochi games after being unable to make it through the qualifying rounds.
Decorated alpine skier Lindsey Vonn, who was expected to be in Sochi, will be stepping away from the competition due to a knee injury the required surgery late last year.
Male figure skater Evan Lysacek is also out of the competition due to injury.
