Judge is one homer away from beating the Bambino’s record.
Babe Ruth, AKA The Great Bambino, AKA The Sultan of Swat, is one of the most legendary players in the history of Major League Baseball. He set numerous records during his time at bat, with one of his most prominent being his record for most home runs hit in a single season, the second-highest season record in MLB history. Very few players have ever come within spitting distance of his record of 60 homers, let alone beat it, but that could change soon.

As of this week, New York Yankees star Aaron Judge has officially tied the Bambino’s record with 60 season homers, only the sixth player in MLB history to ever do so. He is well within striking distance of beating the record, though according to Judge, his real target is the all-time record. The all-time homer record was set by Barry Bonds in 2001 with 73 homers in a season. As it was revealed that Bonds used performance-enhancers to achieve this record, it’s a hotly-contested topic, but if Judge could beat it on his own, it would be quite a feat.

“73 is the record in my book,” Judge recently told Sports Illustrated. “No matter what people want to say about that era of baseball, for me, they went out there and hit 73 homers and 70 homers, and that to me is what the record is.”
