McDonald’s is trying to boost its image and pull away from unhealthy additives in its menu. Many of the burgers on the menu have had artificial preservatives removed from their ingredients. The company has also removed artificial flavors and coloring from burgers.

Much of the burgers, two thirds of those offered, will have these artificial ingredients removed, which includes 7 of their offered burgers. In addition, the company has switched to 100% fresh beef in quarter-pounders, and they are hoping these changes will ultimately make their food seem more natural and less unhealthy to its millions of customers.

There are lots of aspects of their ingredients that will no longer be in burgers such as the cheeseburger and Big Mac. The buns will no longer contain chemicals such as calcium propionate, the cheese will have no more sorbic acid, and the special sauce will not contain potassium sorbate, sodium benzoate, and calcium disodium EDTA.

However, pickles, which can be withheld from burgers, will still contain certain artificial preservatives. Many of the breakfast items will also still contain non-natural ingredients. Only time will tell if these changes will change public perception of the company, which has a reputation for being somewhat unhealthy.
