Lebron James Is Setting Records
You don’t get what you pay for with LeBron James. You get more.
Sure, there’s drama and an endless unease about where he will play next. That happened in Cleveland, in Miami, and now it’s going in Cleveland again. There is, of course, a reason he is always in demand.
LeBron, 33, finished February by averaging a triple-double throughout the month. His 31 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists were the keys to the Cavs’ 129-123 victory Tuesday night over the Brooklyn Nets. James averaged 27 points, 10.5 rebounds and 10.5 assists in 10 games for the month of February.
A 15-year veteran, LeBron went directly from high school to the NBA and continues to play as if the senior prom were just last week. Along with letting him close out February as Mr. Triple-Double, his performance made him the only player in NBA history to reach the totals of 30,000 points, 8,000 rebounds and 8,000 assists.
Cleveland has had its struggles this year. The Cavs are third in the Eastern Conference with a 36-24 record and remade their roster via trades so that they could primarily rid themselves of Isaiah Thomas. That put the onus back on LeBron to carry the team … and it will only go as far as he carries it. Coach Tyronn Lue earlier in the week described the Cavs as “predictable.” Usually that’s an accusation that comes from the media, and coaches defend their team against it.
So maybe there’s no NBA title for LeBron this season, and maybe not even the NBA Finals. And there’s no guarantee he’ll be in Cleveland next year.
Odd how much uncertainty can surround a player whose stats are a sure thing.
