Music Makes The Show
Music has a huge impact on how a TV show or movie scene effects the audience. Anyone who has watched Grey’s Anatomy has probably wondered, how did they find that song (while pulling out Shazam)?
Music Supervisor for the show Alexandra Patsavas sits down for an episode of Grey’s Anatomy Post-op and describes what her process is like. Patsavas says she pulls music based on the emotional belief they want to convey to the audience.
“A music supervisor really touches anything that’s musical,” she explains. “So if an actor is humming happy birthday…that falls under my department…to make sure it’s legally able to be aired.”
Alexandra recalls how her 30 year career led her to interview during the pilot. Producer Shonda Rhimes really wanted to used music as score, which has been what the show is heavily known for.
