The star-studded life isn’t all champagne and parties.
I find it difficult to find time to exercise, which is weird, because I don’t exactly have a packed social calendar. If I were as busy as many Hollywood stars are, then I’d really have trouble finding time to exercise. Being on set, going through lines, constant re-shoots; it’s a pretty time-consuming process, at least from what I’ve heard. This is one of the reasons many celebrities hire personal trainers. It’s not just a matter of getting in shape, it’s about finding the best way to get in shape in the most efficient amount of time. Anyone can get in shape if they have endless hours of free time, but that’s pretty much the one thing celebrities don’t have.
You might be thinking “actors don’t have to be buff for their roles, they can just fix it in post!” Post-editing is handy, but it’s not magic. Take Scarlett Johansson’s role in ‘Ghost in the Shell.’ There’s a part where her character, a cyborg, has to lift a massive steel door, breaking her robotic arms off in the process. Obviously, there’s CG at work there, but if her body type doesn’t match, it’s going to look really weird. She had to train her back, hamstrings, delts, and more in a very short timeframe to achieve the muscular structure necessary to make this scene work, and it wasn’t easy. But with the help of her personal trainers, Scarlett was able to get in shape in just a couple of months, and was able to become a pretty convincing cyborg. It could be said that getting in shape is an art. If that’s the case, then celebrity trainers are bona-fide speed painters.
