Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has issued a stern warning to Liverpool, emphasizing that the Magpies will “fight tooth and nail” to retain their key players amid ongoing transfer speculation, particularly regarding winger Anthony Gordon.
Liverpool’s interest in Gordon, reportedly sparked during the European Championship, has been a topic of concern for Newcastle fans. Despite claims of a £75 million move to Anfield, Howe is adamant that Gordon is fully committed to Newcastle. “His mind is on Newcastle,” Howe affirmed. “He has been exceptional, focused on his work, fitness, everything to do with this football club. No distractions.”
Howe also addressed speculation surrounding defender Kieran Trippier, who has been linked with a Saudi Arabian club. While Howe sees Trippier as a crucial part of Newcastle’s future, he acknowledged that Financial Fair Play (FFP) constraints might influence the club’s decisions on player departures. “We want to keep our best players, and we will fight tooth and nail to do that,” Howe said, though he did not rule out the possibility of some departures due to financial considerations.
In recent transfer news, Newcastle has completed their fifth summer signing with the acquisition of Danish Under-21 striker William Osula from Sheffield United for an undisclosed fee. Osula, 21, had a stint with the Blades in the Premier League last season and previously played on loan at Derby County.
Expressing his excitement, Osula said, “It’s a great opportunity, and as soon as I heard about Newcastle’s interest, I knew I had to take the chance to join this club if it came. It has come, and I’m really happy to be here.”
Howe praised Osula’s potential, stating, “William is a talented young forward with all the attributes to be an exciting player for Newcastle United. We have watched his development closely and are delighted to have the opportunity to work with him in this next step in his career.”
Osula joins a list of summer signings that includes Lewis Hall, Odysseas Vlachodimos, Lloyd Kelly, and John Ruddy, as Newcastle continues to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season.
