Brad Pitt Might Reunite with Tom Cruise—But Says No Thanks to Death-Defying Stunts
Could Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise reunite on the big screen? Absolutely—just don’t expect Pitt to be clinging to the side of a jet mid-flight.
While promoting his upcoming F1 racing movie in Mexico City, Pitt shared a lighthearted but very real caveat to working with his Interview with the Vampire co-star again: “I’m not gonna hang my ass off airplanes or s— like that,” he told E! News. “So when he does something again that’s on the ground…”
Fair enough. Pitt, 61, and Cruise, 62, have both earned the luxury of being selective with their projects. But Pitt is making it crystal clear: he’s happy to work with Cruise—just not at 30,000 feet or underwater with sharks.
In a separate interview with Extra, Pitt doubled down with a chuckle: “Well, if I don’t have to hang from biplanes and swim through submarines, then I’ll consider.”
It’s not that Pitt’s against action—it’s more about practicality at this stage of life and career. Still, the idea of a Pitt-Cruise reunion isn’t new. The two were once attached to a version of Ford v Ferrari in 2019, with Pitt playing race car driver Ken Miles and Cruise taking on the role of legendary coach Carroll Shelby. That version, set to be directed by Top Gun: Maverick’s Joseph Kosinski, was eventually scrapped when the studio didn’t greenlight the budget. The film went ahead with Christian Bale and Matt Damon instead, under the direction of James Mangold—a version Pitt praised as “a great movie.”
Despite their famously different acting styles (Cruise the daredevil, Pitt the laid-back thinker), the two stars clearly share mutual respect—and a healthy dose of competitive spirit. Pitt revealed they once raced go-karts back in the ’90s when filming Interview with the Vampire, and apparently Cruise got the better of him. “Tom and I got to get back out there,” Pitt said with a grin. “Because he did, the last time we were there, he pit me. He took me on the last corner, and I’m still bitter about it, 30 years later.”
Now that both actors have new projects revving their engines—literally—there’s buzz that their long-dormant racing rivalry could play out on screen again. Pitt’s upcoming Formula 1 film, F1, zooms into theaters on June 27, starring alongside Javier Bardem, Damson Idris, and Kerry Condon. And while he’s no stranger to the wheel—having raced bikes as a kid and practiced on tracks for fun—Pitt prefers to keep the rubber on the road and the stunts a little closer to Earth.
So, could Louis and Lestat ride again? Never say never. Just don’t expect long hair, frilly shirts—or Pitt dangling from a helicopter.
