Hunter Biden Files Civil Lawsuit Against Rudy Giuliani and Former Attorney for Alleged Digital Privacy Violations
In a significant legal development, Hunter Biden has filed a civil lawsuit against Rudy Giuliani and his former attorney, Robert Costello, on Tuesday. The lawsuit, lodged in federal court in California, alleges that Giuliani and Costello were responsible for the breach of Hunter Biden’s digital privacy and the violation of federal and state computer privacy laws through alleged hacking activities targeting his devices.
Hunter Biden’s lawsuit asserts that Giuliani and Costello spent years engaged in “hacking into, tampering with, manipulating, copying, disseminating, and generally obsessing over data that they were given that was taken or stolen from” his devices. Despite Hunter Biden’s demands for the cessation of these unlawful activities and the return of his data in their possession, Giuliani and Costello have refused to comply, according to the lawsuit.
The legal action contends that the defendants’ statements imply that their alleged hacking activities persist to this day and could continue into the future if not stopped, necessitating the lawsuit.
This latest lawsuit is part of Hunter Biden’s broader legal strategy as he confronts his detractors. It coincides with a Republican-led impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden, which is also examining Hunter Biden’s business dealings.
“Everyone involved in stealing and manipulating Hunter’s data should be hearing footsteps right about now,” stated a source on Hunter’s legal team.

Earlier this month, Hunter Biden filed a similar civil suit against former Trump White House aide Garrett Ziegler, accusing him of devoting substantial time and effort to accessing devices purportedly belonging to Hunter Biden after leaving his White House post. Additionally, Hunter Biden sued the Internal Revenue Service last week, alleging the illegal release of his tax information and a failure to protect his private records.
Rudy Giuliani, who faces multiple civil and criminal actions stemming from his post-2020 election activities, is further embroiled in legal trouble as a result of this lawsuit. CNN has reached out to Giuliani and Costello for their comments on the matter.
The lawsuit highlights that Giuliani has “not only admitted but bragged about downloading data from Plaintiff’s ‘laptop’ (even though he only had a hard drive) onto his own computer; about using his own computer to access, tamper with and manipulate the downloaded data; and about maintaining multiple copies of the data for his and Defendant Costello’s personal use.” As an example, the lawsuit points to an episode of Giuliani’s podcast ‘America’s Mayor Live’ in February 2023, where Giuliani held up a laptop computer on camera and declared, “This belongs to Hunter Biden.”
