‘Venom’ Breaks Box Office

Critics and fans are currently divided on Venom, with some calling it confusing and overly-flashy, and others calling it a bombastic fusion between a horror movie and a buddy-action flick. However, despite the film currently holding a rating of 30% on Rotten Tomatoes, it has already broken a box-office record.

From its Thursday preview showings alone, Venom has already brought in over $10 million in profits, breaking the record for an October film opening. Experts estimate that, if the profits continue in this direction, Venom could very well beat out 2013’s Gravity for highest grossing October opening weekend.

An oddly specific record for sure, but a record nonetheless. Industry projections place Venom‘s weekend profits between $57 million and $65 million, though it will need to compete with the concurrent opening of Lady Gaga’s film A Star is Born to make the bulk of that money. It’s probably safe to say that, no matter what, Marvel will make its money back from Venom.
