Sports Forecast For The Weekend
This is your “rinse and repeat” weekend.
You watch soccer, then you watch soccer again. You watch the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees, and then you watch them again. You watch the cars go around the track and then you watch them do it again.
Such is life.
The round of 16 – the knockout round – commences on Saturday in World Cup play. No more draws, folks. We get a winner every time. You brew some coffee in the morning, you plunk your heiner in the recliner, and you get France vs. Argentina at 10 a.m. ET on Fox, followed by Uruguay-Portugal. You can repeat the same drill on Sunday, at the same times and with the same network, first to see Spain-Russia and then Croatia-Denmark.
Your chances to study the Red Sox and Yankees are plentiful. The two American League East leaders play Friday night at 7 p.m. on MLB, Saturday at 7 p.m. on Fox and Sunday at 8 p.m. on ESPN. That’s spreading the joy around. The first person to say “these two teams just don’t like each other” must instead find a Baltimore Orioles game to watch. Blech.
NASCAR, the sport of circular motion, rolls into the heartland on Sunday for the Overton’s 400 at Chicagoland Speedway. NBC Sports Network does the honors at 2:30 p.m.
A little short of thrills? Just not feeling it? Sorry. We’ll throw you a bone. Tucked away on Saturday at 5 p.m. on CBS Sports Network is bowling – the U.S. Women’s Open. Happy now?
