Sports News Starting With The Latest From The NFL

The Los Angeles Rams escaped Denver on Sunday with a 23-20 victory that left them 6-0 and the NFL’s lone unbeaten team.

The Kansas City Chiefs, who had been keeping the same pace, rebounded from a 15-point halftime deficit but ultimately fell 43-40 to the New England Patriots. Two first-half turnovers proved devastating for the Chiefs (one was on an interception in the end zone).

In a real oddity, the Patriots ran the ball (38 times) more than they threw it (35). Tom Brady passed for 340 yards and a score and ran for a touchdown. Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs’ young and gifted starter, threw for 352 yards and four touchdowns.

Another failed comeback (or successful one, depending on your outlook) came in the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 28-21 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. The Bengals took the lead and then let the Steelers waltz down the field for the winning TD on a pass from Ben Roethlisberger to Antonio Brown.

Also of note: The Baltimore Ravens had 11 sacks, one short of the NFL record, in their 21-0 win over the Tennessee Titans. … The Dallas Cowboys, who were threatening to bust one wide open, did exactly that and hammered the Jacksonville Jaguars 40-7.

College Football:
Losses by Georgia, Washington, West Virginia and Penn State led to a shakeup in the Top Ten. Alabama remains No. 1 but Ohio State climbed to No. 2, followed by Clemson, Notre Dame and LSU, which pulled off the big upset of Georgia, which had been second.

Baseball:
The Milwaukee Brewers and Los Angeles Dodgers are tied at a game apiece in the National League Division Series and play resumes Monday night at 7:39 p.m. ET in this best-of-seven. The Boston Red Sox and Houston Astros are also tied at 1-1 in the American League series, and they’re on the field Tuesday at 5:09 p.m.

Elsewhere:
Aric Almirola earned his first NASCAR victory since 2014 on Sunday at Talladega Superspeedway to clinch a spot in the round of eight of the Monster Energy championship series.

Australian Marc Leishman won the CIMB Classic at TPC Kuala Lumpur West for his fourth PGA Tour title.

Terence Crawford knocked out Jose Benavidez Jr. with 12 seconds left in the 12th round on Saturday night to defend his WBO welterweight title.
