The 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 was won by a rookie. Fitting, no?

American Alexander Rossi finished the race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday with no fuel left in his tank. His Honda was towed to the victory celebration.

“I have no idea how we pulled that off,” said Rossi, a 66-1 longshot. Carlos Munoz of Columbia finished second.

In the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Martin Truex Jr. led for a record 392 of 400 laps (or 588 of the 600 miles) for his first victory of the season and the fourth of his career. Kevin Harvick was second and Jimmie Johnson finished third.
