A Sports Filled Weekend
Offering suggestions on what to watch and why can be dicey. Hit and miss.
In this space on Friday, yours truly suggested it would be fun to watch Austin Peay in the Ohio Valley Conference basketball tournament, simply because it’s fun to chant “Let’s Go Peay.”

Let that chant ring out some more. The Governors defeated Tennessee-Martin 83-73 on Saturday night for their sixth straight victory and their first OVC title since 2008. They earned an NCAA Tournament bid and one more “Let’s Go Peay” from this corner.
On the other hand, we advised you to watch the Golden State Warriors play the Los Angeles Lakers, but to ignore the horrible Lakers. So the Lakers went out and upset the Warriors 112-95. Go figure.
NFL

Super Bowl-winning quarterback Peyton Manning will confirm his retirement from the Denver Broncos and the NFL on Monday. The club announced the move on Sunday. Manning won two Super Bowls, five MVP awards and set almost every meaningful passing record in his 18-year career.
Golf

Aussie Adam Scott clearly likes Florida. On Sunday he won his second consecutive tournament in the Sunshine State. After capturing the Honda Classic, he took over the WGC-Cadillac Championship in the final round to notch the first back-to-back victories in on the PGA Tour Florida since Tiger Woods in 2001.
Elsewhere
Brad Keselowski ended a 33-race drought by taking Sunday’s Kobalt 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Keselowski passed Las Vegas native Kyle Busch with five laps left to win for the first time since the fifth race of 2015 at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California. … There were two big upsets at UFC 196 in Las Vegas. Miesha Tate choked out Holly Holm to win the bantamweight title that Hollm had taken from Ronda Rousey; Nate Diaz choked out Conor McGregor. … The University of Illinois is expected to hire former Chicago Bears and Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Lovie Smit to replace Bill Cubit, who was fired on Saturday.
