Trump Is Feuding With “The Squad”
After a brief respite, President Trump is back to feuding with “The Squad” (Democratic Representatives Rashida Tlaib, Ayanna Pressley, Ilhan Omar, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez). This time, Trump tweeted that Israel shouldn’t allow Omar and Tlaib, who are Muslim, to visit the country because they “hate Jewish people.”
“It would show great weakness if Israel allowed Rep. Omar and Rep. Tlaib to visit,” Trump tweeted. “They hate Israel & all Jewish people, & there is nothing that can be said or done to change their minds. Minnesota and Michigan will have a hard time putting them back in office. They are a disgrace!”
Last month, Trump tweeted that The Squad “hates America” and should “go back to where they came from” and fix the problems there. Only one of the four Congresswomen, Minnesota’s Ilhan Omar, was born outside the United States. She grew up in Somalia, came to the U.S. as a refugee, and became a naturalized citizen as a teenager.
Shortly after Trump’s tweets, Israel announced that it was indeed barring Tlaib and Omar from entering the country. Israel cited the women’s support of the BDS movement (boycott, divest, and sanction) as grounds for keeping them out of Israel.
“The decision has been made [and] the decision is not to allow them to enter,” Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely said.
