The Queen Still Has Some Tricks Up Her Sleeve
A lot of people now wonder if Queen Elizabeth has any power or if she is just there in order to uphold tradition. The longest living monarch has a fraction of the power that royals used to have, but she still has a few tricks up her sleeve! Here are things Queen Elizabeth actually has the power to do.
She can present citizens with the “titles of honor.” The title of honor is given to individuals to honor their merits. Titles such as “sir” and “dame” have been given to stars such as Elton John and Maggie Smith.
She can pardon criminals. She can actually give a royal pardon to anyone that has committed a crime, no matter how serious. If you are in the UK and find yourself in a bit of trouble, give the Queen a call because she could give you a pardon.
She can issue passports. Every single British passport is issued in her name. And while she has the right to issue them, she also has the right to withdraw them.
She commands the armed forces. The Queen herself is the commander-in-chief UK’s entire military force. Now that is some power.
She can declare war. She is the only person in the entire UK that can declare war on other countries.
So to answer your question, Queen Elizabeth actually has a lot more power than you think. After 92 years, she is still has all those tricks up her sleeve!
