The U.S. government is on track to approve nearly $40 billion in foreign military sales in the 2016 fiscal year that ends October 1st. A top Pentagon official said the budget is down from $46.6 billion last year.

U.S. Navy Vice Admiral Joe Rixey heads the Pentagon’s Defense Security Cooperation Agency. At the Farnborough International Airshow, he told Reuters, “We’re tracking toward $40 billion. We’re tracking toward our forecast.” He added that the amount will depend on the fourth quarter.
