LG created wearable air purifier face mask
LG’s latest innovation comes in the form of a battery-powered face mask that is a portable air purifier that has the breathable protection of a standard face mask. The electronic face mask is called the PuriCare Wearable Air Purifier that is similar to the LG home air purifiers including replaceable filters.
The wearable air purifier features battery-powered fans to help people breathe better and sensors to detect when you breathe in or out to adjust the fan speed accordingly. This new mask doesn’t mention COVID-19 but it’s implied that COVID-19 implies that it was created in response to the pandemic.
LG disclosed that they created this new mask to replace “inconsistent” homemade and disposable masks that are in short supply. LG initially announced the mask in July and committed to donating 2,000 of the wearable air filters to a university hospital in Seoul.
LG wanted to create a mask for medical staff that is easier to wear for hours at a time along with tackling issues found with wearing face masks. The electronic face mask was designed to prevent glasses from fogging up and breathing difficulties associated with wearing a face mask.
The wearable air filter weighs as much as a pair of ski goggles and comes with a special case that charges the battery while disinfecting the mask with UV light. LG disclosed the mask can operate on the battery life of two hours on its highest setting and eight hours on the low-power setting.
The new LG face mask will be available in select markets by the fourth quarter and have yet to set a price.
