The Golden Globe award show was last night and the television categories were full of surprise winners, but the film categories went largely as expected. So, with that being said, here’s what you need to know from the award show that combines television and movies.
To start in the movie section and drama categories “Carol” leads with 5 nominations in best motion picture/drama, Cate Blanchett for best actress/drama, Rooney Mara, best actress/drama, best director, and best original score. Also nominated for best drama film was “Spotlight,” “Room,” and “The Revenant.” And of course we can’t forget that Leonardo DiCaprio was nominated for his leading role in “The Revenant.” And his competition was Eddie Redmayne in “The Danish Girl,” and Will Smith in “Concussion.” In the comedy category “Trainwreck” was nominated for best comedy film and so is its leading lady, Amy Schumer, for best actress and he main competition was Jennifer Lawrence in “Joy.”
Now for the TV section in drama categories, besides “Empire” and “Game Of Thrones,” the best TV drama category was full of surprise nominations like “Narcos” on Netflix and “Outlander” on Starz. In the comedy category-streaming services dominated the best comedy series category. Netflix on the other hand received a nod for “Orange is the New Balck,” and “Mozart in the Jungle” was also nominated.
