Target is getting ready for the holidays with an early Black Friday
Mega-retailer Target will be opening its doors to “Black Friday” shoppers in the middle of Thanksgiving dinner, at 5 PM on Thanksgiving Day.
The store’s hours are nearly identical to its 2018 holiday hours, when the store was open from 6 PM on Thanksgiving Day to midnight on Black Friday. The store’s Black Friday practices have sparked criticism from labor advocates who say the store is robbing employees of the chance to spend Thanksgiving with family and friends.
But Target said they’ve hired more than 100,000 additional employees just to cover holiday shifts. Instead of giving store workers the day off, they’re trying to motivate employees with the motto “WWABD: What Would A Badass Do.”
“It’s not an official slogan but an expression of the determination and commitment our store team members have in creating a superb experience for our guests during the busiest and most important time of the year,” Target said in a press release.
Target’s executive vice president, Janna Potts, used the new slogan in a Tweet in September to thank employees for their hard work and dedication.
“Huge THANK YOU to the store team for an incredible week! Your passion, energy and heart make this such a special place to work. Loved getting to talk to so many of you last night. #WWABD Let’s finish strong!” Potts tweeted.
