The St. Louis Cardinals pulled off a dramatic comeback win on Sunday night, beating the San Francisco Giants 5-4 to even the National League Championship Series at one game apiece.
Pinch-hitter Oscar Taveras homered in the seventh inning to tie the game at 3-3 and Kolten Wong hit a walk-off solo shot in the bottom of the ninth as the series now shifts to the West Coast.
In the American League, the Kansas City Royals hold a 2-0 lead over the Baltimore Orioles as the series moves to their ballpark for a Monday night game. The Royals have yet to lose in the postseason.
NFL
The Dallas Cowboys won their fifth straight game, beating the Seattle Seahawks 30-23 in Seattle. Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray tied legendary Jim Brown as the only players to rush for more than 100 yards in each of the first six games of the season. … The Carolina Panthers and Cincinnati Bengals played the highest-scoring tie game in NFL history, ending 37-37. Bengals kicker Mike Nugent missed a 36-yard field goal try on the final play of the OT session. … The New York Giants trash-talked the Philadelphia Eagles all week and then got trashed 27-0 on Sunday night. The Cowboys and Eagles are tied for the NFC East lead with 5-1 records.
COLLEGE FOOTBALL
Mississippi State (6-0) unseated Florida State (6-0) atop the AP poll after defeating Auburn (previously ranked second) on Saturday. The Bulldogs became the first team ever to go from being unranked to No. 1. FSU dropped to second and Ole Miss hung on at No. 3. Baylor is fourth and Notre Dame sits at No. 5. Circle the date: Nov. 29. That’s the Egg Bowl, the traditional meeting between MSU and Ole Miss, which could well be the game that decides which will play in the SEC Championship Game.
NBA
Injuries continue to mount in the preseason. Oklahoma City’s Kevin Durant, the reigning MVP, could be out two months with a fractured in his right foot. Washington Wizards guard Bradley Beal could also miss two months with a fractured wrist while his teammate, Kris Humphries, could miss up to a month after surgery on his pinkie.
Today’s question
