Christmas Day. It is so many things to so many different people.
It’s a religious holiday, a secular holiday, or just another day. Some folks go to church, some to charitable functions, to visit family or to have family visit.
And some, apparently, watch basketball. And they must do it in great numbers because the NBA isn’t exactly taking the day off.
Bored by Uncle Walt’s endless stories of walking to and from school (yeah, uphill, both ways, in driving snowstorms) as he grew up in northern Michigan? Turn on the TV. Finished opening the presents? Turn on the TV. Had your fill of turkey and trimmings? Turn on the TV. The TV never gets a day off.
You can watch the New York Knicks (who need your pity and holiday wishes) play the Washington Wizards at noon ET. The Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs tip off at 2:30 p.m. The Cleveland Cavaliers and Miami Heat get together at 5 p.m. for LeBron James’ ‘homecoming’ in South Florida.
At 8 p.m., the Los Angeles Lakers and Chicago Bulls play. And at 10:30 p.m., it’s the Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Clippers.
Maybe you got a new TV for Christmas. Break it in. Watch some of the games, all of the games, or none of the games.
Tell Uncle Walt we said Merry Christmas.
