The Future Of Mars Exploration
With robots slowly becoming commonplace in our world, it may come as no surprise that scientists and researchers believe robots will allow for more advanced space travel. Namely, further exploration on Mars. With the first robot, Sophia, gaining citizenship in Saudi Arabia last year, the idea of robotic bees exploring Mars doesn’t sound as Sci-Fi as it once may have.
According to Business Insider, engineers are currently creating robotic bees to hover over the surface of Mars to collect data. NASA commissioned Japanese scientists to develop this new technology, which will hopefully collect much wanted and needed data on this illusive planet. The plan, according to NASA, would be to have a rover that would both launch the robotic bees as well as act as a charging station. Why robotic bees? Well, it’s advantageous to use a small ‘creature’ because they can be deployed in large amounts. That means if some don’t survive the climate on the planet, or malfunction in any way, there is still as strong likelihood that data can still be collected by others.
